There are a number of medications that can prolong the QT interval, which could lead to a dangerous irregular heart rhythm.
These QT-prolonging meds include methadone, certain antibiotics, cyclobenzaprine, & certain cancer meds.
People with long QT syndrome should not take any of these drugs. Using these medications together could also increase the risk of QT prolongation.
SOME QT-PROLONGING MEDICATIONS include:
Alfuzosin (Uroxatral)
Amoxapine
Apomorphine (Aopokyn)
Chloroquine (Aralen)
Certain anethetics
FINAL THOUGHTS
In general, the medications listed above should not be taken by people with long QT syndrome.
Also, they should generally not be used in combination. However, there may be circumstances in which this may be necessary.
In the situations, close monitoring of the heart rhythm is usually advise.
